First of all I printed four co-ordinating pretty papers from a CD called "Mix & Match Papercraft Collection" by Creative Crafting World - this was a recent free members' gift from Create and Craft.
Then I cut each sheet into strips an inch wide (I chose the width because it's the width of my steel ruler to make accurate cutting easy) and stuck them side by side on a sheet of plain white paper, rotating the four designs.
I then turned the paper at right angles and cut into strips again, giving me a series of strips of one inch squares. Next I cut a 5 inch square of white paper and stuck my strips to it, rotating them in the same order I had used before.
I think it's easier to explain with pictures!
I trimmed off the overhanging parts of the strips to give a patchwork square, then used a black gel pen to create faux stitching around each square, and matted it with black card onto a white square card.
At this point I had planned to stamp and colour a topper, but after all that work I didn't want to detract from the quilted background so instead I printed a sentiment and some flowers from the CD and finished them with black matting and gems. I think anything more would be too much!
Gel pens are so useful ! I must buy my own and stop nicking J's

Super card and well done for thinking about how to get around the problem of not having anything to just print off. Love the colours and although I have this cd I haven't looked at it yet, must rectify this soon.
