I hope I'm actually going to get chance to be around to link my own card to it, because today is a Very Big Day in the Willis household, it's going to be my husband's first day of retirement, and we have exciting plans for the day that don't really involve me sitting here blogging (I wrote this earlier in the week). But on the other hand he'll probably find he has umpteen phone calls to make in order to Make It Official and I'll be left twiddling my thumbs.....
Now I don't know about you, but when I make a card and things go wrong, I dismantle it and start again - I don't stop and take a photo of it first. So I had to think long and hard about what to share.
Only in the last few days, I made the classic mistake of sticking the front panel on to a card upside down, and had to remove it and start again.....
But Darnell is really looking for completed cards, ones where you didn't realise until you'd finished that there is a blooper on it. I didn't think I had one, and then the other day I finished a card for a future Twofers DT project.
I was trying to give this card a masculine feel, so I decided to use a dark brown button as the embellishment on the ribbon wrap.
When I first finished it, I was really pleased with it, but when my husband saw it he said "That button spoils it". I got a second opinion from a couple of friends, both of whom agreed with him. So I slept on it (not literally, of course, that would have creased it) and next day I looked again and thought "That button spoils it". And it does, it's too big, too heavy, makes the card look as if it is about to topple over to the right, and doesn't link in with anything else in the design.
So I had to remove the button - have you any idea how strong Pinflair glue is? - and rescue it.
Do you want to see the rescued card? Well, I'm afraid you have a very long wait because I'm not sharing it until May 21st. APRIL FOOL!
Well at least you were able to rescue it.

Trust our men to be so forthright . . . a female would have 'dressed it up', but sometimes we need to hear it like it is! Thanks for making me giggle today! ReplyDeleteGreat story! I often sleep on my questionable cards and in the morning decide they still look horrid! In the bin they go! Pretty sure we've all done the upside-down thing too. My DH always says my cards look good; just can't trust his judgement, haha! Enjoy the day. Bev

Upside-down...yep, done that more times than I care to admit! And your giraffe, with or without the button, looks mighty handsome by me! Ugh, yes upside down. I start to do that a lot! I love the giraffe. I have a really hard time with buttons.....which is probably why they sit in my stash.

ReplyDeleteAh, yes, I wish I had a dollar for every time I put the panel on upside down! I have to say, butterflies falling OUT of the sky, rather than soaring up, would be a bit of a shock coming out of the envelope! Now, as far as your excellent giraffe card, Jane, I am going to agree with you and the in-house critic! The button does pull the eye away from that gorgeous creature and I'm so glad you were able to operate successfully!! Thank you so much for being a sport and playing in my first BFCBB Hop!! ReplyDeleteI do the upside-down thing more times than I want to admit!! lol... Or sometimes, I get the front panel right and then stamp the sentiment upside-down inside!! (Same effect! Arrrgh...) Great giraffe card, even with the big button. I have torn off a lot of bows and buttons, etc...leaving a huge scar that requires an even larger embellishment. Ha.

Oh goodness, I think all card makers have put our papers on upside down before, but I know it still makes me feel really foolish when I do that. Your giraffe card is fabulous! I happen to like the button as it draws out the dark matting. I guess these boo boo's are all in the eye of the beholder. Hugs, Brenda

ReplyDeleteI also have some bad times have stuck panel to the base card. But besides the little things your two cards are wonderful. Butterflies are happy and look as if they had a gathering of. In the second card you wonderfully matched colors and I really like the giraffe.

I have place the front panel on in the wrong direction so many times, it's not funny. I usually end up cutting it off the cardstock and then putting it on a new card front.

ReplyDeleteGreat post! Since I rarely use PP I did not yet encounter the upside down thing... I never photograph my ugly cards, they get recycled and used for snippets or simply thrown away...
