Hive minded

Have you noticed that there seems to be a "most popular theme" for crafting every year? Right now it's the nautical look - lighthouses, ships, beaches and gulls are everywhere, and I love it! A few years ago it was flamingos, then llamas, and last year it was bees. I bought all sorts of bee themed stamps, dies and stencils and I'm still loving them all. I think they have become a close second favourite to dragonflies for me.

For this card I've used a honeycomb stencil, masked the card to leave a strip to stencil on then used inks in shades of brown, orange and yellow to create an ombré honeycomb effect. I then stamped and heat embossed the bees, from a Craft Consortium set,  using black Versafine and clear powder, then coloured in the bodies with a marker and the wings with Stickles.  Finally I used Memento ink to stamp the sentiment, a magazine freebie stamp.

I'm sharing this with

AAA Cards - One layer (I've not gone for the optional Black and White only twist, although I may play again later with that)

  6. Great use of the stencil on your card, and the bees look like they could fly away, so realistic. Thank you for joining us at A Place to Start :)

  7. I had to come and see your bee card after reading your comment, Jane! It's a wonderful bee happy design! I have to say I didn't know I was a year late for the bee trend!! Now that you mention it, I didn't even know there was a bee trend last year, lol! I remember the flamingos (didn't buy into it) and the llamas (not), but not the bees. These black-outs are getting out of control, I guess, lol!

Well, here's the thing with the Twofer challenge: we don't recommend it, but since you have posted this card on the same day the challenge opened (and not before), you can still play in Twofer by making another design using one or more of the same bees as this one. If you still have this one, you can take a photo of the two of them and post it when you post your second card, along with a link back to this post for more info on the first design.

If that made no sense, email me. You don't have to play, of course, but if you do, it's only fair that you use this one if you want. Hugs, Darnell

  9. Fab CAS design Jane, bees are certainly on trend and so they should! I keep finding them in the greenhouse and that is great but sadly some of them don't find their way out again. :(
Thanks for joining us at ATSM. :)
