Oh I do like to be beside the seaside...

Here's a first outing for a new set of stamps I treated myself to from Woodware, one of my favourite brands.

My newest stamp - and my oldest papers. I had SUCH fun creating this! Way back in the 1990s when I started watching shopping TV, I had a craze for buying Hot Off The Press pads and kits. At first, I kept each pad separate, with any snippets tucked into it, but gradually over the years they've all been whittled down to the point where the few unused sheets and all the viable snippets from all the pads live in a single plastic foolscap wallet, and it's always fun to have a rummage through the snippets and reminisce about cards I have made with them.

This time I was looking for stripey snippets, and found lots of them, far more than I've used here. I also picked out a scrap of texture-effect brown paper which would be good for the stump. I'd been planning to add a piece of white for the seagull but then I spotted a scrap of mottled grey vellum which, with the help of a few strokes of Promarker, has the scruffy grey look of a young seagull that hasn't yet grown its adult plumage.

  2. My son is a fanatic seagulls fan (Brighton & Hove football club) and it's coming up to his birthday, I'd love to base his card on this one if you don't mind? I must really try and get the seagull die and stamp set. TFS.xx

    1. I got it from Craft Stash https://www.craftstash.co.uk/woodware-polymer-stamp-beside-the-seaside-with-sentiments-clear-set-of-7-10-5cm-x-17-5cm.html but any Woodware stockist should be able to get hold of it.

  7. This is like a photo of the seaside, Jane! I love your old stripey colorful papers and the way you created your new young seagull! Only fellow paper crafters would understand taking a moment to fondle paper and bring back memories!! Hugs, Darnell

  9. Oh Jane, how clever to make the beach huts from striped paper! I think I need those stamps! Lovely card and so much reminds me of the seaside.

A few years ago I was in a hotel in Brighton, checking out for a possible school reunion venue with an overnight stay (we checked about four hotels in one go so it was justified!). There was a beak tapping on the window next morning and a young seagull waiting outside - just the colours you used! I fed him my 'room complimentary biscuits' and then he settle back down on the window ledge - so cute and this really brought it all back to me. Must have been his routine! Psst, we didn't have the reunion in Brighton after all!

    Hugs

  11. Ha ha ha . . . fun card Jane - and very reminiscent of the local seafront. BUT, as I work in the seaside town of Eastbourne, I have to say the seagulls are a flippin' nuisance!
Although it IS funny when they swoop down on unsuspecting tourists and grab food right out of their hands just before it reaches their mouth . . . every season there are startled faces at lunchtime! Oh, but they do blinkin' squawk all day AND all night long! *SIGHS*

    Hugs, Sarn
