Cling film..... I tried!

So.... cling film. That's the compulsory element at CAS Mix Up this month. I watched the videos, took notes, followed the instructions step by step - and you can't tell, without a magnifying glass, that I had cling film anywhere near this!

I laid the cling film out on my work surface, shook small amounts of brushos in greens, yellow and orange over it,  spritzed with water, laid my card down on top of it, turned the card over, scrunched the cling film around a bit then left it to dry with the cling film still in place, peeling it off once dry.

If you look really, really closely you can see a few "scrunch lines" close to the left hand edge of the panel. On the other hand, the cling film did seem to help the brushos to blend prettily and give a "cloudy" effect rather than a "blotchy" one (which is what I usually end up with) so it DID make a difference, even if it wasn't the one I was hoping for!

To make up for the lack of crease lines and patterns, I stamped and heat embossed a vine leaf panel over my background. The stamp is a very old UM that I got in a grab bag. I coloured the leaves in with a green marker then added a die cut sentiment, cutting it twice, once from black and the second from white, to add a slight shadow to help it to stand out.

I am sharing this with

Another technique to add to my list of things to try once I get back into my craft room and More importantly find my brushos which I’ve put in a “safe place”. Your card looks great!

A beautiful card Jane - love the colors you used on your cling wrap background and the pretty gold embossed ivy! It could be the paper you are using - try watercolor paper, or maybe a glossy card? I used Bristol Smooth Surface - and I tried the technique by putting the Brushos and water directly on the card and laying the cling wrap over it immediately and squishing it up - a new technique often takes several tries! I often use colors that don't work out and so then try others - thank you so much for joining us in the CAS Mix Up! Julia xx

Another vote here for adding the cling film to the card rather than the other way round and as Julia rightly says the type of card can make all the difference. Regardless of all that, you've still ended up with a fantastic card, so you totally rock the technique!

This turned out beautifully Jane. LOVE the mix of colours for your beautiful background. I agree that sometimes the cling wrap doesn't want to stick, but you do have a few creases. And like you said, it helped to blend the colours better for you. Bonus that worked for you in a different way. I LOVE the heat embossed vine and leaves. Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Mix Up and CAS Watercolour!

I think it looks great, Jane! And getting watercolour powders to blend nicely may be all the technique you want from this anyway! (P.S. Go look at the SoSS FB group...)

The cling film might not have done what you wanted but you made a gorgeous background anyway! Perfect for those fabulous leaves - fabulous card! xxx

I agree, I would try again, but sprinkle your Brushos directly onto your watercolor paper (Strathmore or Arches mixed media are my fav's) and spritz with water then add your cling wrap (I use Saran Wrap) and scrunch it around, which blends the Brushos inks. All that said, you still ended up with a beautiful background for your gold heat embossed ivy image. A truly beautiful birthday card. TFS and joining us at CAS Mix Up and CAS Watercolour. Hugs...

Ooh, I love your colors! I don't thing I've ever tried the cling-wrap technique... someday. Yours is inspiring, though, because it looks fabulous! I don't have Brushos, but I love my Magicals and Color Bursts! Thank you for sharing this beauty at SOS.
