Step Panel Cards

In the August issue of Quick Cards Made Easy, there was an article about making Step Panel Cards. They looked interesting, and I thought they would be a really good way to incorporate several different co-ordinating patterned papers onto one card, so I had a shot at making them.

Here is my first attempt.

The papers I have used are all from the Tonic Studios "Winter Wonderland" pad, with a stags head cut using a die from a docrafts build-a -scene set. I wasn't quite sure how to line up the front panel - it is only attached at the top so that it hangs free over the lower step, allowing the card to fold completely flat for posting as well as providing an undecorated surface to write on - and I've placed it slightly too low down so that when the card stands up, the upper step doesn't lie completely flat, but nevertheless I'm pretty pleased with it for my first attempt at a new fold.

Right, now I had tried and seen the possible pitfalls, I wanted another go straight away, and I thought I'd make a card for the Butterfly Challenge where the theme is Any shape and/or the colour of quartz. I had a look at some google images and quartz crystals range from pure white through delicate rose quartz to all shades of amethyst - perfect, I thought, for the BoBunny Secret Garden papers lurking in my stash. I've used quite a lot of them and when I lifted them out, several of the sheets were down to the last scraps, so I'm taking this make over to the Snippets Playground too.

See, I lined up that front panel correctly this time! It's one of those things you have to get exactly right first time - a fold like this needs the really strong red-backed tape and that beast gives you no second chances.

All the papers used on this are from the BoBunny set - the floral sentiment panel on the front is fussy cut from one of the papers. The butterfly and sentiment on the back panel are out of a goody bag of embellishments I was sent.

Playmates in the playground will be proud of me - apart from the white card made to construct the folding card, every piece of card and paper I used on this was a snippet - I didn't cut into s single sheet of virgin paper.

Now here's a look at the two cards together. In the second photo you can clearly see the difference between the alignment of the first and second cards.

I loved making these and they would lend themselves to so many different themes. I'm sure you'll be seeing lots more of them on here.

I am sharing the combined effort with

That is a wowser of a shaped card and I love how youv'e decorated it. Perfect papers for my Quartz challenge. I also like the first card which looks very elegant with the stags head centre stage . (I have much for my sins booked a table for outr local Christmas Craft Fayre and I'm thinking that this shape card would be good dotted amongst the other cards as it wil stand up on its own. Off to have a try out!! ) thank you for fluttering into the garden . Hugs Mrs A.

Double WOW from me Jane - a corker of a card shape. I love both versions although am so impressed that you used all those snippets for your second go. And yes, red line is great stuff but so unforgiving!I try to just line up one side and then sort of poke around underneath to pull the rest of the red covering off. Don't always work but I keep on trying!

Thank you for coming to play in the Snippets Playground.
