Inspired by a picture

Outside our hotel room last week there was a picture hanging on the wall that I really loved.

I thought the white silhouette against the brown inky background would work really well with stamping and resist embossing - so here is my take on it.

The stamp I have used is a very, very old one which I think came from a sheet of stamps produced by Trish Bayley - I would think it was around 1995.  I stamped and embossed it with clear powder, then tore paper with a deckle edged ruler to use as a mask to create a frame around it and blended distress inks into the exposed area. After removing the mask, I stamped the sentiment - this stamp is a mere youngster, being from a Hot Off The Press set that I bought from QVC only about 20 years ago!

At first glance this really doesn't look like a one layer card because thanks to the masking, it appears to have more depth than it actually has.

I am sharing this with

A deckle edged ruler?! I want one! This card is so beautifully executed - it's fabulous! The simplicity of the design is so elegant. Your stamps well and truly meet the retro requirement! Just goes to show good stuff is worth keeping. Thanks for playing with us at Retro Rubber Challenge again.

Fabulous card, Jane, so classy and elegant. Love your torn edge effect. I have a deckle edge ruler somewhere gathering dust. I don't think I've ever used it, so thanks for the inspiration to dig it out. xx

Beautiful card, one layer cards are the hardest I have ever attempted, but you made it look like a "walk in the park".

This is gorgeous! Love the heat embossing and the pretty color for the sponging. This stamp is now available at I Brake for Stamps. I recognized it. It is called Floral Silhouette Bouquet. I know they have purchased the rights to certain discontinued stamps.
